Our Editor would like to share some good news with you, straight from the builder himself. William Marcus Brown has bought the Rhodesia Hotel in Clifton Crescent, the famous former hotel of Sidney De Haan. We did know this but have now been told that the objective, subject to planning, is to convert it to 5 good sized flats. There may be room for a little parking, and the conversion is expected to be similar to the excellent splitting up of this builder’s Augusta Crescent building reported in the last magazine. There has been some online anxiety that it would be an HMO. That is nonsense and would not be the best commercial use of a very fine building.
The Rhodesia was recently damaged by fire and vandalism. Recent storms have resulted in a lot of internal vegetation! But the building is being secured. Meanwhile Master William’s Place, the large flat conversion of Queen’s House in Guildhall Street is expected to be finished in 6 months now, not three as reported in the magazine. That also however is a very smart looking building compared with what it had been, I think members will agree.
Go Folkestone remains anxious to recruit more members for the Green Gang and Electrical Recycling volunteers. One of the easiest ways to volunteer is to introduce yourself on Saturdays 10-2 at our stall outside Boots. Volunteer form attached and we look forward to hearing from you.
