Supporting Folkestone Since 2001

Go Folkestone Projects

Every membership, calendar, and volunteer hour goes straight into projects that make Folkestone a cleaner, greener, more inspiring place to live and visit.

Guided by Purpose, Grounded in Action

We are seeking support from the Town Council and other partners for a range of creative and community initiatives. At the same time, we’re always open to new ideas from our members - focusing on projects that are achievable and make a visible difference to the town.

Clifton Crescent Viewing Balcony Completed!

One of our most recent achievements is the restoration of the Viewpoint Balcony opposite Clifton Crescent. With support from Folkestone & Hythe District Council, the expertise of former ferry captain Roger Bell (assisted by fisherman Frank Bond), the skill of local artist Daniel “Sign Boy” Beedle, and the enthusiastic involvement of local schools, the project has transformed this popular spot.

The balcony now clearly marks out the many landmarks visible out to sea, from lighthouses and sea lanes to Cap Griz-Nez, Calais, Dungeness, and even the routes of Channel swims. It’s a unique space where residents and visitors can stop, look outward, and feel connected to Folkestone’s place on the coast.
Go Folkestone isn’t just about preserving the past. It’s about building a future – stronger, greener, and more connected – for everyone who loves this town.

Heritage Boards & Local History

Our ongoing heritage project brings Folkestone’s past to life through information boards installed across the town. Each one is backed by members’ memories and community research, and together they form part of a wider online local history resource. By connecting stories from the past with the spaces we walk through today, we’re keeping Folkestone’s heritage alive and accessible for everyone.

Samuel Plimsoll Mural

We’re supporting the creation of a new mural by local artist Shane Record for the Folkestone Fishing Museum, celebrating Samuel Plimsoll – known as the “sailors’ friend.” This artwork not only honours a major figure in maritime history but also strengthens the connection between Folkestone’s past and its vibrant present. Public art like this adds colour, pride, and identity to our town.

The Green Gang

Our Green Gang continues to lead environmental projects that make Folkestone cleaner, greener, and more welcoming. From tree planting to litter-picking, their work is a simple but powerful way of showing what can be achieved when people come together with pride in their town. These activities improve everyday spaces, protect our environment, and build a sense of community ownership.
