The city\, which is scheduled to be the European Capital of Culture in 2024\, features the striking\, modern cathedral at its core – as a centre for liturgy\, music and culture in Northern Norway. The cathedral is home to seven choirs\, a song school\, and a world-class Eule organ with 96 stops.  \n Prior to beginning his position in Bodø in September 2021\, George was Organist at S:ta Maria kyrka (St Mary’s Church)\, Helsingborg\, Sweden: a basilica-sized church built in the Danish Gothic style\, dating from the 14th Century\, which included Bach’s illustrious teacher\, Diderik Buxtehude\, amongst its former organists. Before returning to Europe in 2016\, George was Director of Music and Cathedral Organist at St Paul’s Cathedral\, Dunedin\, New Zealand\, alongside which he was the Fleming Galway Organ Fellow to Knox College at the University of Otago\, Music Director of the Southern Youth Choir\, and held a teaching position at The University of Otago. Prior moving to New Zealand\, George was employed as Artist-in-Residence/Assistant Organist at Christ Church Cathedral\, Hartford in the USA\, and Organist to the Anglican Singers. Before departing Europe and heading to New England in 2010\, George held the post of Assistant Organist to the Cathedral Church of St Andrew in Aberdeen\, Scotland\, alongside positions at the University of Aberdeen. At the university\, George accompanied the majority of services during his time as David Gordon Memorial Senior Organ Scholar\, and featured numerous times on BBC broadcasts\, both local and international. George originates from the Folkestone area. and during his teenage years held several organist positions in Shepway\, including notably the Organ Scholarship at Holy Trinity Church.  \n George is both an Associate of the Royal College of Organists and highly active as an international concert organist and recording artist\, whose latest productions are available on all major streaming services. Stemming from his Swedish heritage\, he has an extensive record of work within Scandinavia\, and furthermore is pursuing part-time doctoral studies\, concentrating on the way in which the Nazi occupation in Scandinavia impacted upon developments within classical composition. He is active as a composer of both sacred music and avant-garde works. Notably\, George has been taught by David Flood\, Anne Marsden-Thomas\, Gerard Brooks\, Roger Williams\, Nigel Allcoat\, Francis Jacob and Ewald Kooimann and\, most recently\, Peter Stoltzfus Berton.  \n Away from a hectic musical schedule\, George is a keen traveller\, a food fanatic (particularly that of Asian origin)\, a committed fan of football\, Formula One and other sports. He is also a historian\, an occasional poker player and a fan of good wheat beers.

SUMMARY:Henry V
DESCRIPTION:The Changeling Theatre Summer Tour present Henry V \nWe few\, we happy few\, we band of brothers \nA young superstar King has ascended the English throne. When his advisors tell him the French throne is rightfully his too\, Henry falls for their persuasion. An insult from the Dauphin – heir to the French throne – is enough to trigger Henry\, who gathers a mighty fleet and invades France. \nAfter defeating the French at Harfleur and Agincourt\, the young King makes the old King of France swear to hand the throne to him on his death\, making him King of both countries. To seal the deal he marries the old King’s daughter\, Princess Katherine. \nBased on the events of the Hundred Years’ War\, Henry V is much more than a historical documentary. It is a play about the merits of war\, set against the moral and personal cost of conflict. \nOnce more unto the breach dear friends… \n\nThe area used for The Lower Leas Coastal Park was formed from a product of a landslip over 200 years ago\, it is now a much-loved seaside destination. \nLower Leas is a linear park between Folkestone and Sandgate which has been developed into an award-winning park for recreation and enjoyment of the coast. \n\n\n\nWildlife such as migrating birds and insects thrive in the area and the park contains an under cliff area with a unique microclimate attracting wildlife rarely found in the UK. \nEvents take place throughout the summer including concerts\, children’s workshops and drama. \nThe Coastal Park has won the Green Flag Award  (given to quality green spaces) every year since 2007 when it first applied for the award. \nThis performance is kindly supported by the Roger de Haan trust.  No booking required\, just rock up with your picnic and some change to drop in our donation box at the end of the show.

He started to learn the piano when he was about seven years of age.  While singing in the local church choir he began to play the organ and studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.   His organ teachers were David Saint and Annete Goerke\, also participating in master classes with Peter Hurford and Johannes Geffert. Two years further study resulted in a Master’s degree from the University of Birmingham specializing in French baroque keyboard and choral music. Ian also holds diplomas from the Royal College of Organist’s and from Trinity College of Music\, London.  Whilst at the University of Birmingham Ian was responsible for the University of Birmingham Liturgical Choir and conducted them during many concerts\, tours and broadcasts.   Since then\, Ian has pursued a dual career as a concert musician and as a teacher\, holding positions at The Blue Coat School\, Birmingham\, Ampleforth College\, York\, UK\, and a four-year stint as Organist and Master of Chapel Music\, Guildford Grammar School\, Perth\, Western Australia.    \n  \nIn 1989 Ian won the Hurford/Forsyth – Grant Traveling scholarship awarded by the Royal College of Organist’s\, which allowed him to complete his studies in Europe.  Ian has published articles on Mozart’s Organ Music and researched and written extensively on the life and work of the seventeenth century French Organist and composer\, Jehan Titelouze\, publishing a new modern translation and edition of his letters and poetry.   Ian’s interests are broad but his particular métier lies in the performance of French Organ and harpsichord music\, but he is also fascinated by the music of Mozart\, Bach and most liturgical music. From 2000 – 2020 Ian lived in the Gulf State of Oman and worked as Organist to His Late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said until he died in January 2020.  Ian also works as an organ consultant and has overseen the desigsn and construction of five new mechanical action organs including the large new organ in the Royal Opera House\, Muscat\, built by Philipp Klais.  He is also the consultant for the new organ in the new concert hall in New Cairo City.

SUMMARY:As You Like It
DESCRIPTION:As part of Canterbury Shakespeare Festival 2024… \nRosalind\, banished by her uncle\, escapes with her cousin Celia into the Forest of Arden\, where her father is living in exile with members of his court\, alongside simple country folk. There\, dressed as a boy\, Rosalind encounters Orlando\, the man she loves\, and tests his feelings for her while maintaining her disguise. Thanks to the redeeming effect of the pastoral setting\, various pairs of lovers are eventually happily united. This production of the play will be set in the 1960s\, when the hippy culture rejected the status quo\, advocating ‘flower power’\, nonviolence and love as alternatives to the restrictions of traditional society. \n\n\n\nBook \n\n\n\nTicketing\n\n\n\n\nFull Price: £12.50 \n\n\n\nDiscounts & packages\n\n\nIndividual discounts\nAdult Full Price: £12.50 \nStudent/Under 25s: £8.50 \nSeniors: £8.50 \nAccess scheme member: £8.50 (Access Scheme Supporter £0) \nGroup tickets (4 or more people): £7.50 \nGulbenkian Staff: £5 \n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is part of \nCanterbury Shakespeare Festival 2024\nThu 25 July – Sat 17 August 2024\nMore…
