How to Get Involved in Folkestone’s Future (Even if You’re Busy)

We all want to live in a town that feels welcoming, inspiring, and cared for. But for many of us, the thought of “getting involved” feels daunting. Who has hours of spare time these days? The good news is that supporting Folkestone’s future doesn’t require huge amounts of time. With Go Folkestone, there are simple, flexible ways to play your part – whether you’ve got five minutes, five hours, or five days to give.

The quick and easy way

The simplest way to make a difference is by becoming a member. At just £15 a year, it’s an affordable step that gives you a say in the projects we support and helps fund the work directly. Buying the annual calendar is another easy win: you get 12 months of stunning local photography, and all proceeds go straight into projects. These two small actions alone make a visible impact.

A little more involvement

If you’ve got a bit more time, attending monthly meetings is a great way to get connected. Members receive minutes and updates even if they can’t always attend, but being in the room means your ideas and voice help shape what comes next.

You can also join in with volunteer activities – like the Green Gang’s tree planting and litter-picking sessions. They’re simple, social, and hugely rewarding. Plus, you can dip in and out as your schedule allows.

For those who want to go deeper

Some members choose to get more actively involved in committee-level work, helping steer the bigger picture. Others contribute specific skills – from photography and design to local knowledge and event organisation. However you participate, there’s space for every level of involvement.

Why it matters

The important thing to remember is this: you don’t have to do everything. Community action works because lots of people do a little, not because a few people do it all. That’s how Go Folkestone has kept going since 2001 – through members and volunteers adding their piece of the puzzle.

So whether you’ve got five minutes to buy a calendar, or five hours to plant trees, you can be part of Folkestone’s story.
