Dear Go Folkestone Member
I am writing to inform you of some changes that have recently taken place in the Go Folkestone Committee.
David Noble, who has been Chair for the past nine months and a valued Committee member for many years, has decided to stand down to focus on his family and other commitments. I am pleased, however, to report that he will still be available to assist others in his areas of expertise such as the annual calendar and magazine.
Tony Hill, who had shared Vice-Chair duties with me over the same period, has also resigned.
The Committee have done me the honour of appointing me as David’s successor, while Marie-Helene Hunter will be my Vice-Chair.
Some of you will know me from attending meetings and periodic contributions to the Go Folkestone magazine. Having spent many childhood holidays in the town, I returned with my wife, Janet, to live here nine years ago and have been active ever since in promoting it to residents and visitors alike, notably through my walking tours, involvement with writing groups and poetry readings. I have also published a collection of poetry inspired by my affection for Folkestone.
Marie-Helene and I, along with our colleagues on the Committee, are determined to provide you, and, by extension, the town, with the best possible service and value for money. Whilst the recent survey results were extremely encouraging, we cannot be complacent. In fact, I hope that the “new” Committee will make an even more positive impact on Folkestone’s fortunes than it has over the past twenty-four years. I am sure you will agree that we have plenty of work to do!
The next all members meeting will be held at the Burlington Hotel on Wednesday 11th June at 7pm (arrival 6.30 to allow time to collect a beverage) I would be thrilled to see as many of you as possible there.
